As you probably already know, I’m obsessed with theme parties. Give me any excuse to throw on a costume or prop and I’m there. This past weekend, my great friend Linze celebrated her 24th birthday in style with a mustache-themed BBQ/pool party! The unique yet simple theme was perfect for the birthday girl (her bathroom is decorated with mustache motifs) and guests wore everything from fu manchus and ‘staches-on-sticks to full-blown handlebars. Needless to say, I think Geraldo Rivera would be proud.
- Anything you like can be a theme…even facial hair! Just get creative and go for it.
- You don’t have to spend a fortune to put on a great party. Nearly everything here came from Party City…including my 99 cent mustache.
- You can’t keep a good ‘stache down.
Happy Mustachio Bashio!
Invite: There’s a surprising amount of mustache stationary available online if you want to purchase something, or simply make your own custom invitation with a stamp or stencil. Don’t forget to include a mustache styling guide!
Decorate: Any way you’d like! Linze went bright and summery. Insert mustaches where applicable.
Instructions: Bake cake in a circular baking tin according to directions on box. Once the cake has cooled, cut it in half in an “S” shape so you have two teardrop pieces.
Flip one of the pieces over and arrange to create your mustache. Secure the 2 pieces together with toothpicks.
Frost and drag a fork through the frosting to give it texture. Ta-Da!
- Rainbow Sherbet
